Paula Jo (PJ) Hruby, Ed.D., LCPC

Paula Jo Hruby

Dr. P. J. Hruby is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She earned her doctorate in transpersonal psychology, which takes into consideration the whole person: mind-body-spirit. Her therapeutic background includes individual, relational, group and family counseling. In all of her sessions, Dr. Hruby uses alternative or experiential methods of therapy, which help accelerate change and often reduce time in counseling.

Dr. Hruby believes that each individual is unique and has an innate drive to develop to her/his fullest potential. Her therapeutic approach is client-centered and focuses on insight-oriented therapies including transpersonal forms of therapy, particularly Jungian Psychology and Psychosynthesis. Psychosynthesis is a process of personal and spiritual growth that combines Western psychology and Eastern disciplines.

Dr. Hruby integrates many techniques including guided imagery, dream work, cognitive-behavioral, expressive therapies, hypnosis, EFT, HMR, Voice Dialogue and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in promoting growth and healing and to address relational issues, family problems, trauma, abuse, depression, disordered eating, phobias and grief. She also uses EMDR to help manage pain and overcome habits.

As a trauma and anxiety specialist, Dr. Hruby helps individuals who have had intense experiences (sad, mad, bad, and scary) that keep popping up or in some way interfering with theirs lives. Often intense past experiences can drain energy and prevent happiness. Her expertise is in resolving these events/memories/feelings by aiding the mind and body in integrating or digesting them. Her goal is always to help clients feel more centered, in control, and moving forward in their lives.

Dr. Hruby is also a Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant in EMDR. EMDR is both effective and efficient in resolving trauma, anxiety, and grief. Both the AMA (American Medical Association) and the APA (American Psychological Association) agree that it is one of the fastest methods for treating PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
